1. Biophilic Design: Bringing Nature Inside

One of the most exciting interior design trend of 2025 is Biophilic design. This style has become a bigger part of my home this year, and I’m excited to incorporate it even more in 2025!

The style is about creating a deep connection between your home and the nature. To achieve this beautiful style you should infuse your home with decor that mimic the natural world. The magical thing about this style is that your home not only feels peaceful but the design can actually boost your mood and well-being, cool right?

Why It’s Perfect for 2025

Okay, so don’t get me wrong – I love technology – but in this increasingly digital world, more and more people need the nature to actually feel good. That’s why I believe this style is very important for our well-being.

I’ve personally found that adding more plants and natural materials to my home has made a huge difference in how calming and welcoming my home feels. Often, you don’t even realize why you feel the way you do, but maybe you have stepped into an ultra-modern home with marble floors but also a cozy cabin with wooden floors? If you have – I’m sure you did feel a clear difference on your mood. Just look at the pictures below.

How to Style It

Now to the important question, how do you style Biophilic design? Start easy with introducing more green plants in your home. Opt for low-maintenance indoor plants such as snake plants and monstera if you’re new to plant care. Then you can start introducing natural materials in your home such as wood, stone and bamboo.

I love wooden panels, both on half the wall, but also to make an accent wall with wooden panels. Also, remember that you don’t have to overdo it. Just a few touches here and there will noticeably shift your mood.

2. Maximalism: Bold & Beautiful Spaces

In 2025 minimalism won’t be just as popular – but maximalism will grow. 2025 is all about embracing bold colors, rich textures, and mixing patterns. This trend is perfect for those who want to express their personality through their decor.

Why It’s Perfect for 2025

I’ll admit – I used to be a minimalist, and a part of me still is. I love having a decluttered environment and keep it pretty simple, however the freedom of mixing prints and colors in my home has been amazing.

As an example, I changed from my beige sofa into a beautiful dark blue couch. Maximalism is all about creating a space that tells your story – whether it’s a blue sofa or a vibrant rug.

How to Style It

A good way to start is by layering different textures such as velvets, silks and woven. Keep a clear color palette but don’t be afraid from bold patterns. Start slow with bold colors on details and then start mixing patterns more and more, such as floral prints and geometric shapes. And remember to have fun – it’s what interior design and this style is all about.

3. Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Interiors

Interior design trends of 2025 will focus more and more on creating eco-friendly and sustainable home. That means choosing materials that last through time, but also designs that are energy-efficient. This trend is both good for your home, cheaper and good for the environent. Can’t get any better than that, right?

Why It’s Perfect for 2025

When renovating my future house, I will make sure to choose materials that will stand the test of time – that’s kind to the planet. Sustainable design is more than just a passing trend – it’s about making choices that protect the earth while making your home feel cozy and inviting.

How to Style It

When decorating a sustainable home you need to think outside the box. You don’t always need to get new things, look for recycled things. You might find a beautiful dresser at a second hand shop but don’t like the color – repaint it. Choose energy-efficient lighting and appliances. Take one small step at a time.

4. Smart Homes: Technology Meets Style

While sustainability thinking grows, we also crave more technology in our homes. At first glance, these two might seem like complete opposites. However, when combined thoughtfully, they can complement each other and create a more efficient, eco-friendly living space.

Think voice-controlled lighting, automated blinds, and high-tech appliances that make your life easier but also more connected and sustainable. However, it should still integrated in your decor so you can’t tell it’s smart technology.

Why It’s Perfect for 2025

We all know that technology continues to change how we live, so it’s no surprise that it’s also finding its way into our homes more than ever. I’ve recently upgraded my own home with a few smart tech upgrades, and let me tell you, it’s a game changer. I have invested in Philips Hue and I might be lazy, but it’s the best thing ever!

How to Style It

Here you should look for minimalist designs that that blend with the rest of your decor. We can take Philips Hue as an example, you can’t tell it’s there since it’s just lightbulbs or maybe a light strip behind the TV bench.

5. Curved & Organic Shapes: Softening Your Space

This trend I am actually all about – curves and soft lines. I think the whole space gets a fresh, soft and inviting feeling by just choosing curved items instead of decor with harsch lines. For instance, a round instead of a square coffee table.

Why It’s Perfect for 2025

This trend has completely transformed my living room. Before we built our new coffee table we had a square one. Now, we have a cloud shaped coffee table in wood. This mix gives the most soft and welcoming look. I absolutely love it and I’m so proud of me and my boyfriend for building this table without any kind of knowledge. But to my point – curves are welcoming – they invite you to relax and enjoy the space I’d say.

As I mentioned above, a round or cloud shaped coffee table is one way to style this curved shapes. I also love a curved sofa, curved edges makes it much more inviting. But these are only the big pieces, you should also opt for round mirrors, lamps and even vases. I believe that mixing a few curved items into a square room can make all the difference in softening the space.

6. Earthy Tones: Grounding Your Home with Nature’s Palette

So, this is something we have already seen a lot in 2024, but that’s also continuing into 2025 – earthy tones. These colors creates more of a grounded space with warm neutrals, terracotta but also deep greens. The perfect color palette of the new year.

Why It’s Perfect for 2025

As someone who’s always been drawn to earthy hues, I can’t wait to incorporate more terracotta but also mustard yellow into my home. I think that mustard yellow pillows will go very well with my dark blue couch. I also believe that these colors truly give me a sense of warmth while creating a calm and inviting home.

The best part with these earthy tones is that they pair well with all different kinds of colors which also makes it easy for you to personalize your space. Learn more about colors and how it affects us here.

I believe that you should start on the walls – paint the walls in muted tones such as terracotta or olive green. Then you can start by adding deep rusts, beige and browns through accents such as pillows, curtains and rugs. Just remember to keep a clear color palette throughout the room to make it cohesive.

7. Artisan & Handcrafted Pieces: Bringing Unique Touches to Your Home

Another one of the new interior design trends of 2025 is unique handmade items such as handmade ceramics or like my crated coffee table. This bring unique and one-of-a-kind touches to your home.

Why It’s Perfect for 2025

The best part of handmade pieces is that every piece has a story behind it, such as our coffee table that I keep nagging about, but it tells such a fun story by how it was being built. It’s the same thing as if you go to a different country and find a beautiful handmade vase. That vase will have a story to tell while still adding character to your space.

When styling your space you should look for handmade decor such as cutom-made furniture or pottery. These pieces will add a sense of authenticity and warmth to your beautiful home. You don’t have to worry about everything matching perfectly either – the meaning behind these pieces is to bring a uniqe character to your space.

8. Luxurious Textures and Finishes

We could see by the Christmas trends this year that velvet and luxurious materials started sneaking up on us. In 2025 this trend will continue with faux fur throws, and high-quality fabrics that feel just as good as they look.

Why It’s Perfect for 2025

When adding velvet details to your home it immediately elevates the space, not only visually but also with its soft and beautiful texture. The luxurious finishes helps create a comfortable and high-end feeling in the room, but, without the need for expensive furnitures.

How to Style It

When styling these luxury materials you should opt for rich textures in your pillows, throws but also your curtains. Velvet and faux fur should be everywhere. Also, don’t be afraid to mix textures by combining a velvet couch with a soft wool rug.

9. Multi-Functional Furniture: Maximizing Space

As our homes continue to evolve, multi-functional furniture will remain a trend in 2025, especially for those with smaller spaces or who love versatility.

Why It’s Perfect for 2025

Right now I live in a smaller apartment with my boyfriend. We do have one spare bedroom that also works as an office. Here, I want to add a sofa that also could serve as a guest bed when my family comes to visit. This is just perfect, I absolutely love the idea of multi-functional furniture and I am not alone about that and that’s also why it’s also coming with us into 2025. It’s the perfect way to maximize any small home.

How to Style It

The first thing I think about when talking about multi-functional furniture is of course a sofa that works as a bed – I believe that’s the most common and clear piece of multi-functional furniture. However, another amazing piece is also a coffee table that also works as a storage, or a storage ottoman. I mean, storage is always something you need more of, am I right? I think that you should look for pieces that complements your style while still being practical.

10. Statement Lighting: The Future of Illumination

Lighting has always been an essential part of interior design, but entering 2025, this will gain a new meaning. Lighting will become the center of a room – think bold, sculptural pieces that will not only add to the atmosphere but also to the design in the room.

Why It’s Perfect for 2025

In our living room we have a big statement lighting and it completely transforms the room. It adds to the character while also adding to a cozy feeling in the room. I love lighting and the atmosphere it creates, but when growing up the ceiling light was just an meaningless piece of glass in the ceiling with no thought behind it at all. But now, lighting is no longer just functional – it’s a statement piece in itself.

How to Style It

When deciding what light to include in your home, first of all, think about the overall theme and style of your home. Then you should look for oversized pendant lights or geometric designs that fits your style and home. These are the pieces that will work as the focal point in your room, therefore spend time deciding what light to invest in.
