1. Refresh Your Home with New Throw Pillows and Blankets
Let’s start off strong with throw pillows and blankets. This is such a great tip, I love it! It’s sooo easy to switch pillows and blankets and you can often find very cheap ones.
Also, you don’t have to change all of your pillows, you can keep some pillows as a “base” and then change one or two. This will actually still make a huge difference.
Buying a new throw can also change the look dramatically. However, you don’t even need to get a new throw, just by hanging the throw differently on the couch or removing it from the couch will make a huge difference.

I recently swapped my dark winter pillows for lighter, textured linen ones in soft neutrals and added a cozy knit throw in a light beige tone. The result? My living room instantly felt brighter and more inviting, perfect for spring.
Pro Tip:
Look for pillow covers instead of full pillows – they’re less expensive and easier to store. And don’t shy away from mixing patterns. Try pairing a bold geometric print with a simple stripe or solid.
2. Bring Your Space to Life with Plants
Plants are something I have recently fallen absolutely in love with! I love the look of, how fresh it makes the room look and how many options there are. You can easily find something for every single spot in the home.
Actually, it doesn’t only make your room look fresh, it actually refreshes your home by purifying the air. Great, right?

When I first started decorating my home, I felt overwhelmed by how pricey some plants could be. Then, I discovered pothos and snake plants – affordable, easy to care for, and nearly indestructible (great for someone that don’t know much about plants = me). Adding a few of these around my living room brought so much vibrancy and freshness to the space.
Budget-Friendly Tip:
Thrift stores and discount shops often carry stylish planters for a fraction of the cost. You can also DIY planters by painting terracotta pots or wrapping them in jute for a chic, handmade look.

3. Change Up Your Wall Art
Art is actually one of the quickest ways to make a big impact in any room. Also, it’s so cheap! You can either order posters from places like amazon or Etsy – or if you want to invest in art you can keep for a long time then switch around in your home you can find absolutely beautiful art on bigwalldecor.com.
But, this is a post about budget-friendly ways to refresh your home and the most budget-friendly way is by making it yourself. I actually make most of my art myself – of course it’s not the same quality but it works for me.
Then I can treat myself more of a “real art” – as I like to call it – sometimes. These will stay with me forever whereas the art I make myself will be switched up or painted over every now and then.

Recently, I downloaded a couple of abstract prints from Etsy for just a few dollars. After printing them and placing them in sleek, neutral frames I already had, it felt like I had a whole new gallery wall. That’s also a great option!
Pro Tip:
Stick to a cohesive color palette when updating wall art. It creates a harmonious look, even if the prints vary in style.

4. Refresh Your Home With Lighting
Lighting makes a huge difference, it can actually make or break the mood in a room. If you have too harsh lighting in a room it can make the space feel anything but cozy and we all want a cozy home, right? However, with the right adjustments you can refresh your home in a minute.
Large lamps often cost more and are not that cozy even – I recommend getting a few smaller ones for a cozier home. If you also go for smaller table lamps or maybe a floor lamp, it’s also easier to move them around in your home. Maybe you want to change place on the lamp in your bedroom and your living room. This can make both of the spaces look new.

Another great budget-friendly tip to refresh your home with lighting is by adding candles. This can make the biggest diffence – it’s a cute decoration as well as a great source of light.
Try This:
- Swap out old light bulbs for dimmable or warm-toned LEDs.
- Experiment with placing small lamps or fairy lights in corners to create a cozy atmosphere.

5. Add a Few Decorative Accents
Sometimes it’s the little things that makes a big difference. You can refresh your home with simple decorative items such as trays, candlesticks or even vases. Vases and candlesticks are actually great since they are multifunctional – a vase for including plants/flowers (+decorative) and a candlestick holder for including cozy lights (+decorative).
For example, I added a simple wooden tray to my coffee table to organize candles, a small vase, and a stack of coasters. It instantly made the space feel curated and intentional.
Budget-Friendly Finds:
Check thrift stores, flea markets, or even clearance sections for unique pieces. And don’t underestimate the power of grouping items in odd numbers – it’s a designer trick that always works!

6. Experiment with Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper
If you want to refresh your home in more of a bold way, peel-and-stick wallpaper or decals are an amazing way to do so. They’re affordable, easy to apply, and renter-friendly. This is a big change but a cheap change. Also, there are so many options!
When you live in a rented apartment you can’t really renovate it the way you want to – so you have to find budget-friendly ways. I recently added a peel-and-stick backsplash to my kitchen, and it looks like a million bucks. The whole project cost less than $30 and took about an hour to complete. So, what are you waiting for?

Ideas for Where to Use It:
- Create an accent wall in a bedroom or living room.
- Update furniture, like the back of a bookshelf or cabinet.
- Add detail to entryways or small nooks.
7. Rugs and Curtains To Refresh Your Home
Okay, so we started off strong with some fabrics – pillows and throws. Now we are closing off just as strong with rugs and curtains. All kind of fabrics are very easy to change – and cheap.
These soft furnishings are often overlook, but they make such a big difference. I recently changed the curtains in my living room, from beige see-through ones to a cheap white linen-version and I was chocked in how big of a difference it made.

Rugs and curtains can be expensive, but it can also be very cheap – but still look expensive – if you choose the right materials such as cotton and jute.
Pro Tip:
Shop end-of-season sales or check second-hand stores for high-quality options at a fraction of the price.
8. Refresh Your Home By Decluttering
I will throw in a little extra tip here – decluttering. Sometimes, if you want to refresh your home, you don’t actually have to spend money at all. Sometimes, refreshing your home doesn’t require spending any money at all. Decluttering and rearranging your furniture can have just as big of an impact.
One weekend, I tackled my kitchen drawers, donating or discarding anything I hadn’t used in over a year. Suddenly, my kitchen felt bigger and more functional. Pairing this with a new layout for my living room furniture made everything feel fresh again.

Another great thing about decluttering is that you can declutter your home and the things you are tired of or simply doesn’t want more you can sell.
These are then money you can allow yourself to get some new things to refresh your home with. This way you have brought some new stuff to your home without really spending any money, right?
