Now that you have decluttered your home you need to put it into different categories and find a designated home for everything. I’m speaking from experience that having a place where your things always is makes a major difference. And not only in keeping your home organized but in knowing where things are and saving lots of time in stressful situations.
It’s a good thing to invest in practical storage solutions such as bins, baskets and shelves. These will help you massivly in keeping your things organized. Check out my favorites here.
Okay, so you have decluttered your space and organized it. In order to make all of this work worth it you need to come up with a routine that works for you to keep things tidy at all time.
Let me give you an example, I have as a routine to take 5-10 minutes on the evening to tidy up around the home. Just put things on its place such as the pillows, the remote, glasses and so on. These little things will add up to a big mess and putting them away takes only a few seconds. When you wake up to a clean home the morning after it’s well worth it.
But it is important that you find a routine that works for you. We all have different schedules and lives so it’s definitely not the same for everyone.
Moving on to your closet, cause yes, even though you might not see the mess behind the doors, it makes a huge difference in your mind to have it organized. I have as a rule that when I buy a new item, something else has to go. This way, I always have a reasonable amount of clothes in my closet – but most importantly clothes I actually wear.
You can then find a closet arrangement that works for you. I have my clothes organized by color and I think it works very well. I always find what I’m looking for. But again, you have to find a system that works for you.
Okay, so I actually think it is worth going a little deeper on this rule. The principle is just as it sounds, when you buy something another thing goes. This rule is something you actually can implement all over your home. If you buy a new pillow, sell one you already own. This way you can also earn some money back.
This amazing rule will prevent unnecessary things kept in your home and will always keep a rotation on your things.
Pro Tip: A key strategy for maximizing closet space is to use vacuum storage bags for clothes that are currently out of season.
One thing you often miss is that you have a lot of vertical storage space. There are shelves and wall-mounted storage solutions you can get to free som space from the floor while also keeping your home clutter-free and visually appealing.
A great way to include the whole family is by creating a routine with a cleaning schedule. It could be a weekly cleaning schedule for daily maintenance and then a monthly cleaning schedule for those things that doesn’t have to be cleaned as often. For instance, the fridge, the oven and so on.
This structured way of cleaning ensures that every corner receives the attention it needs.
One way to help keep your home functional but yet stylish is by investing in multi-functional furnitures. For instance a coffee table with hidden storage, ottomans with hidden storage or bed frames with built-in drawers. All of these multi-functional pieces adds so much more storage to your space and you will be chocked over how much you needed it.
Infuse your daily routine with the habit of tidying up as you navigate through your home. When you spot items out of place, take a moment to return them to their designated spots, preventing clutter. This simple practice ensures a consistently organized and inviting living environment. It will make a huge difference!
Transform tidiness into a shared family effort by engaging everyone in the organization process. Assign age-appropriate tasks to each family member, this will also give the kids the responsibility for maintaining the home’s order. With some music you can actually make it a fun family activity.
