Are you ready to bring joy into your home this summer? One thing that summer is known for is colors – because with summer comes vibrant colors, sunshine and warmth. We spend more time outside, we feel happier and we’re surrounded by nature in full bloom. So why not bring that same energy indoors? A colorful summer home refresh is the perfect way to capture that joyful, sun-kissed feeling all season long.
So, if you’re looking for a colorful home decor inspiration, along with fun, uplifting ways to add energy and warmth to your space, then you’re in the right place.
This post is all about bringing that playful, bold color palette into your home – without a total renovation. Now let’s dive into all the creative, beautiful and easy ways to do just that.

1. Start With a Bold Summer Color Palette for Home
The first step in your colorful summer home refresh is to choose a summer color palette that feels fun, energizing, but also just a little bit outside of your comfort zone. And trust me – this is the fun part!
1.1 Think Beyond Neutrals
Today we all have become very comfortable in using only beiges and neutrals – since that has been the trend. But lately, maximalism and bold colors have been catching up and especially in the summer season. So, this summer is the perfect time to embrace those beautiful bold hues. With bold hues I mean coral, sunny yellow, ocean blue, citrus green and even lilac.
However, even if you love all of these colors, it might not be the best choice to go for all of them. In order to keep a balanced look in your home I would recommend choosing two or three of the colors you love the most and then build your seasonal home around those.

1.2 Use Color Psychology
I’ve mentioned that the colors make you happier, but it doesn’t just make us happier – each color has a much deeper meaning and affect on us. Colors can truly shape mood. Let me share a brief description of the emotions some of the color evokes. So, yellow evokes happiness, blue feels calm and cool, green brings a sense of freshness.
When you’re planning your bold summer color palette, think about the feeling you want when stepping into your space. Do you want to feel happy, calm or energized? When you have this figured out, you can start forming your own color palette.

2. Layer in Color With Textiles
The next step on your colorful summer home refresh journey is textiles. So, if you’re looking for a quick solution to add colors into your home only over the summer – then textiles are your friend. You can switch them out seasonally and they still make a huge visual impact.
2.1 Colorful Pillows and Throws
Let’s start with pillows and throws, since this often are the first thing that comes to mind when speaking of textiles. These are so easy to switch out depending on the season and your mood really. But for now, switch out your cozy neutrals for linen or cotton pillows in beautiful and bright summer colors. Go for the palette you chose earlier!
To make the room a little more interesting you can also choose pillows and throws with patterns. For instance, florals, abstract shapes and stripes. This will be eye-catching and make the room inviting – perfect for a colorful summer home refresh.

2.2 Swap Out Curtains
Another textile in the room is actually the curtains. To get some color in with the curtains you can consider adding lightweight sheer curtains in softer colors such as soft pink, sky blue or if you’re feeling daring – you can go for a funky pattern.
If you go for a soft color, such as a soft linen blush curtains – it will catch the light in the dreamiest way during the golden hour. Believe me, it’s worth a try!
2.3 Add a Statement Rug
By adding a rug you can truly ground the space and add an instant pop of color to any room. It could be a bold geometric pattern, a traditional Turkish rug in bright colors or a playful print. I think it’s safe to say that the floor is the absolute perfect place to introduce color.
Also, I recently found this one on amazon, and I fell in love. I love the color combination and the simple pattern and I actually think it screams summer. What do you think?

3. Bring Walls to Life With Colorful Art
One of my favorite ways to make a colorful summer home refresh is by adding colorful wall art. It brings so much to any room and there are so many options. You can go for a DIY option, downloadable prints or an original artwork. Each of these options are great opportunities to put color on the walls.
All you have to do is to invest in neutral frames that will work together with any color. I would have chosen a set of light wood frames, such as this set. A little tip is to mix different sizes to make it a little more interesting.
3.1 Rotate Seasonal Prints
If you love to rotate prints during seasons or when you want some kind of change in your home overall – the best choice is to use printable arts. You can find these in multiple different styles, colors and sizes. Plus, you can put them in a frame and then easily change the art to another one when the new season come. It’s just the perfect choice – a perfect colorful summer home refresh!

3.2 DIY Art Work
If you love a do-it-yourself challenge, it’s actually pretty easy to make your own art. However, that is if you love a challenge and don’t want it to be perfect.
You can either go for an abstract painting with different colors that you love or a vibrant landscape that brings a touch of nature into your space. The best part of abstract art is that it you can make it look exactly however you like, choose the shapes and color you like and just play with it. I think that is where the best paintings are made.
If you want to create a landscape, it might require a little more skills. But, you can pretty easily create a landscape painting with very little details. There are plenty of guides to find online and no matter what painting you want to make, you need a plain canvas to start with and you can find it here.

4. Use Flowers and Plants As Natural Color Pops
One thing that will absolutely add a beautiful pop of color in the most natural way are, of course, flowers. This is a simple and effective way to bring life and vibrancy into any room. The best part is that each flower will offer its own unique color.
4.1 Fresh Bouquets and Wildflowers
Well, the best option is of course fresh bouquets since they are already very well done in a beautiful way. However, it could be pretty expensive to get a fresh bouquet of flower everytime the otherone dies. But luckily there are other options!
You can instead gather your own wildflowers to make beautiful bouquets of your own. For instance, look for bold options such as peonies, dahlias, zinnias or sunflowers to really give your space a joyful impact. But of course, go for those flowers you have close to you.

4.2 Go Bold With Pots
Okay, so fresh flower bouquets are one way to give your space a natural pop of color. But you can also add colorful planters with greenery inside. For instance, a terracotta planter, glazed ceramic or even a painted DIY pot to bring a little more personality into your space.
I have been loving yellow recently and if you’re just like me – and also loves yellow – then you’ll love this flower pot. But if you love blue or green or even dark red, this flower pot comes in lots of different colors and patterns!
5. Add a Colorful Statement Piece
Sometimes it doesn’t have to be many element or something special to give create a colorful summer home refresh. It might just require one colorful statement item to create a focal point for the room.
5.1 Small Furniture With Big Personality
One option to include that bold statement piece is to add a small piece of furntiure in a bold color. For instance a bold side table in a bright yellow or an orange accent chair or even a teal bookshelf. All of these options will drag the eye to this specific focal point and anchor the room – without overwhelming it.
5.2 Paint Something
If you’re feeling a bit bold, you can try to paint a piece of furniture you already own. But, it doesn’t have to be a bright color – sometimes a soft summer pastel color is all you need. For instance, a fresh coat of paint on a bookshelf, wooden stool or even a single wall can make the biggest difference.

6. Play With Color in Unexpected Places
If you want to make the space even more playful, then you should think to add colors in unexpected ways. Don’t just think about the big items, but little accents and decor pieces can also make a huge difference.
6.1 Kitchen Accessories
You can really make your kitchen bright with colors by just swapping out small decorative items. For instance, change your cutting boards, your glassware and you towels. And one thing that are so beautiful to change by the summer are your dinnerware. Get some colorful dinnerware to make ever breakfast, lunch and dinner a little more fun, for instance – something like this.
You can even make the fruit bowl a part of your decor with lemons peaches and limes. This actually works as a beautiful decorative piece.
